Pakistan is Under Construction

What did you just say? Pakistan is under construction? Really? Are you going nuts? Were you suppose to write Destruction? 

How can a country which is the 'capital of suicide bombing'* (with nearly 432 terrorist suicide attacks, resulting in approximately 16,159 causalities, since 1995**), which is facing worst of political and economical crisis and where religious intolerance is at its peak, be under construction? 

I understand the surprise, which this title must have given you. Understandably, for most of us, Pakistan is moving towards a failure state and until recently, i was also feeling the same. However, some of the recent incidents made me feel that, Pakistan is under construction. The apparent destruction is the destruction of our old "building". To build a new building, one has to detonate the old one, and that is what precisely happening in Pakistan. There are multiple reasons why i believe so.

Lets start with Politics. Recently, there has been three major changes in the overall political scenario of Pakistan. First is the emergence of third political power, Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf (PTI). One can disagree with many of Imran Khan's decisions (so do i), but one can not negate that his appearance in Pakistani politics has brought the existing politicians on their toes. Second is the national consensus on Democracy. Since last 7 years, the whole nation, especially the Army of Pakistan, has decided to give chance to democracy. More recently, during the peak of political tension, the armed forces of Pakistan remained neutral and despite all the odds, it did not overtook the government. In a country where, only one government completed its tenure of five years, this is a big change in the mindset. 

Thirdly, in international politics / relations, the recent unfortunate 16/12 incident of Peshawar school killing, 'known as the 9/11 of Pakistan', brought the whole nation on the same page against extremists. The page on which there is no distinction between good and bad Talibans, the page which demands the national leadership to revisit the 'strategic depth' which was adopted in 1980s, the page which highlights, that in order to curb terrorism at home, we should not support terrorism in our neighborhood as well. This has changed the overall approach of our national leadership towards Talibans after at least 35 years. 

The second major change is in the sphere of religion. After the 16/12 incident, the members of civil society staged a protest outside the Red Mosque, which was supporting extremists and was trying to find excuses in support of Talibans. This has rarely happened in Pakistan, which shows that people are sick of extremist elements in society. Similarly, the alleged blasphemy incident of pop star turned Muslim 'evangelist', Junaid Jamshed, has also brought the problem at the door of religious groups. People are realizing that respecting the differences in opinion and living in harmony with differences is the key towards a healthy society. 

Moreover, the educated people of Pakistan are confused and hence questioning the conventional interpretation of religion. While listening to Sami Yusuf, they can not grasp the interpretation which considers all forms of music and musical instruments as forbidden. While taking a picture with their mother, they can not comprehend why taking pictures are not allowed in Islam. While seeing thousands being killed in the name of religion, they find it hard to relate, what is happening currently in Pakistan, with their perception of Islam, which is peace. It is incomprehensible for them that a man's testimony is equivalent to half of woman's (why woman is inferior to man?). And many more questions now bother them. They want answers and they do not want to be slapped with the notion that belief is not to be questioned. After the information revolution, they easily come across atheists, agnostics and people of other religions and they can not simply defend their faith by saying that it is written in Quran or Hadith. 

The aforementioned 'construction' in religious and political spheres has been possible due to a free media. The biggest enabler of this change. The media, with over 100 independent and private channels and with all the negative sides of it, is opening the eyes of the nation. There is no doubt that Pakistan's media does not act responsibly on many occasions, but at least it has made everything transparent and accountable. For example, it was not possible for the third political power to gain public support and neither it was possible to bring unity in nation against extremism, without the support of media. Moreover, there are open discussions on various topics of religion, sociology, politics and economics. Media has made it almost impossible for a politician to openly mistreat poor people and run away with it. The media is even raiding the businesses which are cheating with their customers by selling spoiled products. Hence, the media is holding everyone accountable and under investigation. Nothing (not even a petty, irrelevant and unnecessary event) can hide from the eyes of media.  

The above factors, in my humble opinion, lead me to the conclusion that Pakistan is not destroying, rather it is under construction. There will definitely be further destruction and hardships, as the old building was a skyscraper, which will take a while to fully demolish, but the process has begun. There is definitely hope with a nation which has abundance of awakening and talented young blood, a soil full of natural resources and a religion which is nothing but peace for the whole human kind. All it needs is patience and unity.

Can Hatred bring back Malala?

"Malala Syndrome" is back. Last year, i wrote about Malala with the title of "Malala Syndrome and the Extremists". I tried to explain how the critics and admirers of Malala have taken an extreme disposition, and how Malala will be a fad like Mukhtara Mai. 

Same is happening now. The "extremists" of west have given her the highest award and this, unfortunately, will start the decline of Malala, as this award is already her peak. West usually gives such awards on political basis, that is why even Obama gets noble peace award after bombing Iraq and Afghanistan. In Malala's case, the objective is to malign Taliban and get the support of the world against their extremism. Malala is just a symbol and a tool for west.

Like many others i also believe that she, until now, did not deserve the award of such prestige. The point is simple. She has not achieved anything substantial, solely on her own. Whatever limelight she achieved until now, simply happened to her. She was writing a diary for BBC, then she got shot by Taliban, she flew to United Kingdom, West brought her in limelight and now she has got a perfect platform to work for the cause she stands for. Although, it is easier said than done, she could have returned to Pakistan and could have rejected the help and all the limelight from US and do something substantial for the underprivileged women of Pakistan. Having said that, i do admire her for her courage and vision in this young age. The way she carries herself in a respectful and traditional manner, the way she communicates and the cause she stands for, all are commendable. 

On the other hand, the hatred towards Malala has increased in the hearts of her haters. Malala's haters have, once again, lost their control and have started to throw filth on her, which i think is unjust. Firstly, the 'Malala Haters' should remember that all the conspiracies they made up, when she was shot, were proven wrong. Hence their basic 'hating-Malala' factor was proven wrong. Secondly, while they criticize who she is standing with, they should also see who she is standing against. Is she standing against Islam, Pakistan or Talibans? I think it is Talibans and their extremism. If US is our enemy, then Talibans have also not proven themselves to be the well wishers of Pakistan. Malala has became a voice against the extremist behavior of Talibans. 

Now do the Malala-Haters agree with Taliban and their extremists views? I am sure many of them do not agree with Talibans but they hate her because they believe that she is getting all the support and limelight from US and is acting as a friend and puppet of US and its agenda. But is this really enough reason to hate her? and did we leave any room for her to come back? 

Hence my questions to my country mates are that can we bring back our own daughter from US?Do we agree with her cause? Does women in Pakistan need more attention, equal opportunities and education? If yes then can we protect Malala in Pakistan and stand beside her for her cause? If the answer to all of the above is No, then we need to rethink our hatred towards Malala. 

But if you, at least, agree with Malala's cause, then do something to bring back your daughter. Malala can come back, provided if rather than US, we, Pakistanis, stand beside her for the cause she is standing for. She can come back, if she will see more love and support from within her country. She can come back if she will know that her own country is standing united beside her against extremism. 

Once US hijacked Malala, lets "hijack" her back. 

کیا پاکستانی میڈیاغدارہے؟

 پاکستان کا شمار دنیا کے ان ممالک میں ہوتا ہے جن کا میڈیا مکمل طور پر آزاد ہے. وکیپیڈیا کے مطابق پاکستان میں پرائیویٹ چینلز کی تعداد ١٠٠ کے لگ بھگ ہے. یہ چینلز تفریح،   تعلیم،   خوراک،   فیشن،   موسیقی،   فلم،   نیوز،   مذھب،   کھیلوں،  بچوں، علاقائی زبانوں اور انٹرنیشنل چینلز پر مشتمل ہیں.   ان سب میں سر فہرست تفریح سے متعلق چینلز کی تعداد ہے جو لگ بھگ ٣٠ ہے.تفریح  کے بعد سب سے زیادہ تعداد خبروں سے متعلق چینلز کی ہے جو تقریباً  ٢٠ کے لگ بھگ ہیں. 

آزادی خدا کی نعمت ہے لیکن ہر نعمت کی طرح انسان اس نعمت کا بھی سوء استعمال کرتا اور حدود سے تجاوز کرتا ہے. میڈیا کی آزادی پاکستان کے لئے یقیناً خدا کی نعمت ہے لیکن یہ بات بھی امر واقعہ ہے کے اس شتر بے مہار میڈیا کے بہت سے نقصانات بھی سامنے آ رہے ہیں. 

 یہ میڈیا ہی ہے جس کی وجہ سے پاکستان میں تبدیلی کا نعرہ لگانے والوں کو شہرت ملی،اسی کی وجہ سے غریب عوام کو طمانچے مارنے والے سیاست دان بے نقاب ہوے، یہ میڈیا ہی ہے جس نے اچھے اہل علم کو یہ موقع دیا کے وہ اپنی بات عوام الناس تک پہنچا سکیں اور آج میڈیا کی ہی بدولت ہمارے حکمران یہ نہیں سوچ سکتے کے وہ کوئی اقدام کریں گے اور انھیں عوام کے سامنے جوابدہ نہیں ہونا پڑے گا.

اس کے ساتھ ساتھ یہ بھی ایک تلخ حقیقت ہے کے یہ میڈیا ہی ہے جس نے شعیب ثانیہ شادی اور سکندر زمرد جیسے غیر اہم اور چھوٹے معاملات کو غیر معمولی کوریج دی، آرمی بیس پر حملے اور ڈی آئ خان کی جیل جیسے حساس معاملات کو غیر ذمداری سے لائیو ٹرانسمیشن میں چلایا، ایک صحافی پر قاتلانہ حملے کے جواب میں آئی ایس آئی کے چیف پر بے بنیاد الزامات لگاے اور ٨ گھنٹے تک یہ ٹرانسمیشن چلائی، مذھبی پروگراموں کو بھی منافع کمانے کا ذریعہ بنایا اور اپنے پروگراموں کے ذریعہ معاشرے میں فحاشی اور ایسی روایات ،جن کا ہماری تہذیب سے دور دور کا تعلق نہیں، کو پھیلانے میں نمایاں کردارادا کیا.

 ہمارے ہاں عام  طور پر میڈیا کے انہی "سائیڈ  افیکٹس" کی وجہ سے بہت سےلوگوں  کا خیال ہے کے میڈیا اصلاً بیرونی قوتوں کا آلہ کار ہے اور ان کی ایما پر پاکستان میں فحاشی اور مغربی اقدار کا فروغ کر رہا ہے. اس کے ساتھ ساتھ یہ بھی کہا جاتا ہے کے میڈیا یا کچھ چینلز غدار ہیں اور ملک مخالف ایجنڈا رکھتے ہیں. یہ تنقید  عام طور پر میڈیا  کے خبروں، تفریح اور مذھب سے متعلق پروگرامز اور چینلز پر ہوتی ہے . 

 میری ناقص راۓ میں یہ سوچ صحیح نہیں. یہ اسی سازشی طرز فکر کا شاخسانہ ہے جسے ہم بحیثیت  قوم باقی معاملات میں بھی بروے  کار لاتے ہیں. میں اپنے نقطہ نظر کو چند مثالوں سے واضح کرنا چاہوں گا.

 پہلے تفریح کو لیجیے. میں جب بھی پاکستانی میڈیا پر بھارتی ڈراموں یا فلموں کودیکھتا ہوں تو مجھے اپنے شہر کا وہ ویڈیو سینٹر ذہن میں آتا ہے جو نہ صرف انڈین موویز بیچتا ہے بلکے ان موویز کو بھی بلیک میں بیچتا ہے جن پر پاکستان کا سینسر بورڈ ان کے 'پاکستان مخالف' ہونے کی وجہ سے پابندی لگا دیتا ہے. اور عوام دونوں طرز کی موویز شوق سے خریدتی اور دیکھتی ہے. میں سوچتا ہوں کے کیا ویڈیو سینٹر کا مالک، اور یہ عوام، غدار اور بیرونی قوتوں کا آلہ کار ہے؟

خبروں کی طرف آئیے. کیا صرف ہمارے چینل بے بنیاد، حقائق اور تحقیق کے بغیر خبر پھیلاتے ہیں؟ کیا حامد میر کے معاملے میں جو جیو نے کیا، پارکس میں بیٹھے جوڑوں کے متعلق جو مایا خان نے کیا، کیمرے کے پیچھے جو عامر لیاقت نے کیا، کیا یہ سب صرف میڈیا ہی کرتا ہے؟ نہیں. یہ ہمارے معاشرے میں پھیلے روز کے جرائم ہیں. ہم دن کے ٢٤ گھنٹے تحقیق کے بغیر دوسروں پر  بے بنیاد الزامات لگاتے، انھیں کافر، مرتد، مشرک اور زانی قرار دیتے ہیں. ہم ہمیشہ دوسرے لوگوں کی زندگیوں میں جھانکنے کی کوشش کرتے ہیں اور ہم سب "کیمرا" بند ہونے کے بعد وہی زبان استعمال کرتے ہیں جو عامر لیاقت صاحب نے کی. کیا ہم سب غدار اور بیرونی قوتوں کے آلہ کار نہیں؟ 

مذھب کو لیجئے. کیا مذھب کے بارے میں صرف میڈیا ہی غیر حساس ہے؟ کیا مذھب کو نفع کے لئے صرف میڈیا استعمال کرتا ہے؟ کیا مذھب کے نام پر جو چیزیں میڈیا دکھا رہا ہے وہ عوام میں موجود نہیں؟ کیا جن لوگوں کو میڈیا عالم کے طور پر پیش کرتا ہے، ان کے کوئی پیروکار عوام میں نہیں؟

میرے نزدیک میڈیا دوسرے اداروں کی طرح منافع بخش ادارہ ہے جس کے مالکین پاکستانی ہیں اور اسی عوام سے ہیں جس عوام کا ذکر میں نے اوپر کی سطور میں کیا. ہمارے میڈیا چینلز کو کوئی بھارتی یا امریکی نہیں چلا رہا بلکہ  وہ اخلاقی زوال چلا رہا ہے، جو پاکستانی سماج کے ہر کونے، ہر ادارے اور ہر شخص کو چلا رہا ہے. یہ ادارہ بلکل عوام کی طرح صرف اپنے منافع کا سوچتا ، خبروں، تبصروں اور ڈراموں میں الزامات، جھوٹ اور بےحیائی کی ملاوٹ بھی کرتا  اور اس کے ساتھ ساتھ  اچھے کام بھی کرتا ہے. خورشید ندیم صاحب نے کیا خوب بات کہی کے سماج میں کبھی جزیرے نہیں بنتے، زوال آئے تو ہر طرف آتا ہے. یہ نہیں ہو سکتا کے عوام تو سب کی سب اخلاقی زوال کی آخری حدوں کو چھو رہی ہو لیکن ادارے اخلاقیات کے اونچے مقام پر کھڑے ہوں. یہ ممکن نہیں کے پورا معاشرہ بے لگام اور بغیر کسی سمت کے چل رہا ہو، اور اس عوام کا ایک ادارہ بلکل صحیح سمت میں چل رہا ہو.

اس کے ساتھ ساتھ بارہا ایسا بھی ہوتا ہے کے ایک ادارے یا اس کے کرتا دھرتا لوگوں کا نقطہ نظر ہی، مثال کے طور پر، لبرل ہے اور وہ اپنی آرا کو پھیلانے کے لئے اپنے نقطہ نظر کی  حامی قوتوں سے امداد بھی لیں. میری ناقص راۓ میں یہ کوئی غداری یا بیرونی قوتوں کا آلہ کار بننے کے مترادف نہیں ہے. یہ صرف نقطہ نظر کا اختلاف ہے. البتہ اس نقطہ نظر سے ہمیں اختلاف ہو سکتا ہے اور ہم اس کے برخلاف اپنی بات کو لوگوں تک پہچانے کے لئے راستے ہموار کر سکتے ہیں. جمہوریت کا شکریہ.

 میں ساتھ میں یہ بھی کہتا چلوں کے غدار کہیں بھی پیدا ہو سکتے ہیں، لیکن ان کی تعداد آٹے میں نمک کے برابر ہوتی ہے. لیکن کسی کو بغیر ٹھوس ثبوت کے غدار نہیں کہا جا سکتا. ہم نہ کسی کی حب الوطنی پر شک کر سکتے ہیں اور نہ ہی کسی کے ایمان پر. جیسا کے عامر خاکوانی صاحب نے اپنے تازہ کالم میں لکھا کے "کسی کی حب الوطنی پر شک کی ضرورت نہیں، اپنے وطن سے کون محبت نہیں کرتا، نقطہ نظر البتہ مختلف ہو سکتا ہے". یہی بات مذھب اور ایمان کے متعلق بھی ٹھیک ہے. کوئی مسلمان جان بھوج کر دین سے غداری کا سوچ بھی نہیں سکتا.

اس لئے میرے نزدیک نہ تو میڈیا غدار ہے، نہ ہی بیرونی قوتوں کا آلہ کار. یہ اخلاقی انحطاط کے شکار باقی سب اداروں میں سے ایک ادارہ ہے. البتہ یہ ابھی طفل مکتب ہے، اسے ابھی ابھی پر لگے ہیں، اور میرے نزدیک اگر جمہوری اقدار کو پروان چڑھنے دیا گیا، اور احتساب اور مثبت تنقید کا عمل چلتا رہا تو جلد میڈیا میں بھی مثبت تبدیلیاں آئیں گی. ہمارے اہل علم اور دانش کو اس بات کی کوشش کرنی چاہیے کے معاشرے اور اس کے بڑے اداروں کے احباب حل و عقد کے اذہان بدلیں. عوام کو چاہیے کے ایسی غلطیوں پر مثبت تنقید ضرور کرے لیکن ان خامیوں کی وجہ سے کسی کو غدار اور بیرونی قوتوں کا آلہ کار کہنے سے پہلے اپنے معاشرے پر نظر دوڑا لیں. شائد پورا معاشرہ اور اپنا آپ بھی غدار، ملک دشمن اور بیرونی قوتوں کا آلہ کار محسوس ہو.

الله ہم سب کا حامی و ناصر ہو. جہاں رہئے اپنے ارد گرد الله کی مخلوق کے لئے باعث رحمت بنئے    

International Woman Day

Dedicated to a mother's Love, to a better-half's loyalty, to a sister's care and to a daughter's innocent affection.

On this day, I hope the world realizes how, in past and even now, woman has been abused in the name of culture and religion, and how in preset, she has been exploited in the name of feminism and modernity.

Thank you God for blessing the world with Woman. Truly, as famous Pakistani poet, Allama Muhammad Iqbal said:

"It is the existence of the woman that gives the universe its colors

She is the leading instrument in the grand orchestra of life itself"

And that is why, each day is a Woman Day and each second we are indebted to her. May the world realize the importance of Woman and give her the real status she deserves. 

The Malala Syndrome and the Extremists

Malala Yousufzai, ملالا یوسفزئی، is a 16 years old girl from Pakistan. She got famous when she was exposed as the writer of blogs for BBC in which she, under a pseudonym Gul Makai, expressed her opinions towards Taliban's occupation of the area and her own struggle for women rights, especially woman education. Later, in October 2012, she was shot on head by Talibans, which she miraculously survived and flew to the UK for medication and recovery. According to the Talibans, they shot her because she was becoming a symbolic figure of US and was benefiting US agenda in the region. Since then, in my humble opinion, there have been two extremes in the case of Malala and nowadays these "extremists" have got a severe "Malala Syndrome".  This has made the whole Malala issue not only dubious but also over rated.

Right after the attack on Malala, the first extreme, "The Conspiracists", immediately started associating conspiracies with the incident. In those times, i saw and heard a number of idiotic conspiracies such as she was never shot, why would Taliban kill a small girl when it is clearly against their own norms (even when Talibans "humbly" accepted the responsibility of the attack), she has been shot by ISI or American agencies to start a new operation in north etc etc. The Conspiracist even went to the extent to add certain phrases in the Malala's Diary against beard and head scarf. Time proved almost all of these conspiracies wrong. Apart from TTP's open acceptance of the responsibility of the attack and a letter to justify their act, it is pretty much clear from Malala's face that she was shot. The 'operation-in-sawat' conspiracy was also a hoax and time has proven that no new operation started based on Malala's incident. But, for me, the behavior of these conpiracists is not new. Their opinions are 'anti-US-centric' and not 'truth-centric'. Their enmity towards US and west becomes more important than abiding by the truth and saying only what is just and right.

The other extreme is The West itself, who has exaggerated Malala's status to a level which has made the whole issue even more dubious. There is no doubt that she is a talented, God gifted, ambitious and confident girl, however awards, titles, noble prize nominations and honorary meetings with the presidents and the queen are too much for a person of Malala's caliber and achievements. It is pretty much clear now that west, especially the US, is using her to achieve its vested interests which in my opinion are propagating anti-talibanization, justifying their presence in the region and spreading their own values of freedom while criticizing eastern and Muslim practices (i carefully chose the word Muslim and not Islamic). The problem with the US, like all powers, is also that its own vested interests are more important than justice and truth. Hence to achieve their own objectives, they do not care if they attack Afghanistan or Iraq without significant evidence or give away noble prize to someone who barely deserves it.

Apart from above, the role of Malala and her father has been irresponsible and short sighted. Despite the opposition, she gained many supporters in Pakistan but she is loosing a lot of them now. Malala's recent book is also a clear indication of how she and her father are unaware or negligent towards the ground realities and sensitivities of Pakistani culture. If Malala ever wants to return to Pakistan and do something for the country, the best thing for her was to work on woman education and other related issues without using the head of west and by using her own mind and for that she could even go to the extent of refusing all the special treatment from the west.

Despite all the above analysis, i strongly believe that Malala and her book are, unfortunately or fortunately, a fad. A fad like Mukhatara Mai, which will not be remembered after few years. However i strongly believe that, before US hijack, it would have been much much better if our own people, our own country and the intellects of this country, could respect the individuals like Malala and Mukhtara, symbolically, to promote the causes which they stand for. Just the way they stand for Aafia Siddiqui. In this way, there would be less chances of exploitation of such people and propaganda against Islam and Pakistan. Sometimes one incident or personality becomes the symbol of a cause and that spurs the change in the society. However it is not possible without patience and "conspiracy-less" mind and until we will start accepting our own shortcomings. Till then, lets wait, till these "extremists" are "cured" of this Malala Syndrome. 

جاوید غامدی صاحب کی قدم بوسی

ایک بڑے انسان اور عالم سے ملاقات جتنی دفعہ ہو، کم ہے. ہر ملاقات میں اس کی شخصیت اور علم کے مختلف پہلو سامنے آتے رہتے ہیں. وہ کہتے ہیں نہ کے ایک تصویر ہزار الفاظ کے برابر ہوتی ہے، شائد یہ بھی کہتے ہوں کے ایک اچھی کتاب انسان کو سو علما کے علم کا نچوڑ بتاتی ہے، میرے مطابق سب سے بڑھ کر، ایک عالم کی صحبت انسان کو سوؤں کتابوں میں موجود ہزاروں علما کے علم کا نچوڑ سکھاتی ہے.

میں ان خوش قسمت گنہگاروں میں سے ہوں جنھیں یہ اعزاز حاصل ہوتا ہے کے وہ اپنے زمانے کے بڑے اہل علم سے مل سکیں، ان کی نجی محفلوں میں ان کی صحبت سے فیض یاب ہو سکیں، اور ہزار کتابوں کا نچوڑ چند گھنٹوں کی نشست میں سیکھ سکیں. جب اپنے اعمال پر نظر پڑتی ہے تو سوچتا ہوں کے قیامت کے دن الله تعالہ کے سامنے کس منہ سے جاؤں گا، اس بات کا کیا جواب دوں گا، کے "میں نے تمہیں اپنے وقت کے اعلی ترین عالم کی صحبت دی، تم نے اس صحبت سے کیا علمی اور عملی فائدہ اٹھایا اور کس طرح  دین کے کام میں اس کی مدد کی؟" الله مجھے عمل کی توفیق عطا فرماے.آمین 

اس دفع جاوید احمد صاحب غامدی سے ملاقات ہوئی تو ایک سوال کے جواب پر میں سوچنے لگا کے کیا ہمارے معاشرے میں پیدا ہونے والا ایک دینی عالم ایسا بھی ہو سکتا ہے. اپنی قسمت پر رشک آنے لگا کے خدا نے ایسے عالم کا قرب عطا کیا. غامدی صاحب سے جب میں پہلی دفع ملا تو میں نے ملاقات کے آخر میں ان سے ایک نصیحت کی درخواست کی، ان کے الفاظ تھے کے "کبھی بھیکسی کے اسیر مت بننا، میرے بھی نہیں. میں انسان ہوں اور غلطی کر سکتا ہوں." اس کے بعد انھوں نے مجھے تین بڑے مکاتب فکر کی نمائندہ کتب کے نام بتاے اور مجھے کہا کے میں ان کی کتاب "میزان" کے ساتھ ساتھ ان کتب کا مطالعہ بھی کروں. اس میں مولانا مودودی کی "الاسلام " اور شاہ ولی الله کی "حجتاللہ بالغہ" شامل تھیں. پہلی ملاقات میں غامدی صاحب کی کہی ہوئی اس بات کا اثر ہمیشہ ذہن پر تازہ رہتا ہے.

پچھلے دنوں جب میں غامدی صاحب سے دوبارہ ملا تو نشست کے اختتام پر میں نے کچھ دوستوں کا سلام ان تک پہنچایا اور ساتھ میں ڈرتے ڈرتے ایک اور دوست کی یہ بات ان تک پہنچائی کے میں ان کی طرف سے غامدی صاحب کے پیر چوموں، ان کی شدید خواہش ہے کے اگر انھیں زندگی میں موقع ملا تو وہ غامدی صاحب کے پیر چومنا چاہیں گے. اس پر غامدی صاحب ایک دم سیدھے ہو کر بیٹھے اور ذرا سے سخت الفاظ میں کہا کے ان سے کہیں کے ایسا سوچنا اور کرنا چھوڑ دیں، ایک معلم سے اتنی عقیدت کی وجہ سمجھ نہیں آتی. میں نہ تو کوئی پیر ہوں نہ ہی کوئی نبی. میں نے ان سے استفسار کیا کے استاد سے عقیدت تو پیدا ہو ہی جاتی ہے. انھوں نے جواباً کہا کے الله ہم سے یہ تقاضا کرتے ہیں کے ہمارے اندر پیدا ہونے والے پرستش کے ہر جذبے کا رخ صرف اور صرف اسی کی طرف ہو . اور دل میں پیدا ہونے والے ایسے تمام عقیدت کے جذبات کا رخ رسول الله کی طرف. 

ان دونوں واقعات کو جب سوچتا ہوں تو خیال آتا ہے کے ایک عظیم انسان اور عالم دین نے کس طرح میرے اندر اس کے لئے پیدا  ہونے والی عقیدت کا رخ صحیح سمت میں موڑ دیا اور کس طرح اس نے مجھے شخصیت پرستی میں مبتلا ہونے سے بھی  بچا لیا . کبھی کبھی  کچھ دوست مجھ سے سوال کرتے ہیں کے کیا غامدی صاحب دین میں ایک نیافرقہ نہیں بنا رہے. میں ہمیشہ ایسے دوستوں کی خدمت میں عرض کرتا ہوں کے جو شخص اپنے آپ کو انسان اور طالب علم کی جگہ پر رکھتا ہو، اپنے علم میں غلطی کا امکان مانتا ہو، اپنے پیروکاروں کو اپنےعلاوہ دوسرے علما اور مکاتب فکر کے علم سے فائدہ اٹھانے کی ترغیب دیتا ہو،اورانہیں اپنا ہی اسیر بننے سے ہمیشہ روکتا ہو وہ شخص کبھی نیا فرقہ نہیں بناتا. ہاں یہ الگ بات ہے کے اس کے بعد آنے والے لوگ ایسا کر دیں کیونکےایسا ہونا تو انبیا بھی نہیں روک سکے. البتہ اپنی زندگی میں غامدی صاھب، انبیا کی سنت پر عمل کرتے ہوے، ہمیشہ تفرقہ بازی اور شخصیت پرستی کے خلاف برسر جنگ ہیں. میری ناقص راے میں اگر ہمارے علما صرف انہی چار نکات پر اپنے پیروکاروں کی تربیت کریں تو یقینن ہمارے معاشرے میں پیدا ہونے والے مذھبی لوگوں کے رویوں میں بہت تبدیلی آ جائے گی.

 الله دین اسلام کے تمام اہل علم کو لمبی اور صحت مند زندگی عطا فرماے، انھیں دین کی مزید خدمت کرنے کی توفیق عطا کرے. اور مجھ جیسے کم علم گنہگاروں کو ان کے علم سے فائدہ اٹھا کر اپنے عمل میں بہتری کی توفیق عطا فرماے. آمین . 

The Lesson of Artificially Implanted Trees

Everything in this universe is coherent. The laws governing the nature and the laws governing our lives and the social phenomenons around us, they all are coherent. Therefore for an observer, the whole universe is a library. He attains peace by learning and aligning himself with the laws of nature

From the Diary of an Observer

Few years back, in one of the cities of Pakistan, palm trees were artificially implanted to beautify the road sides. The local government spent millions to buy and implant those trees. There is no doubt about the fact that, in those days, the road sides were giving a scenery of a well developed Arab city, like Dubai. However, the reality was that neither the plants had deep roots inside the soil nor the soil was compatible with the nature of palm trees. Hence the inevitable happened and, within a few months, the trees dried or were uprooted by strong winds leaving the roadsides shallow for eyes.

Human ideologies, values, moral standards and etiquette are also like these trees. If they are planted on a suitable time in a suitable soil, they are bound to flourish. At the same time, if they have deep roots within human personality, then the storms can not uproot them. I find this law of deep roots and suitable soil significantly relevant for contemporary liberal and religious groups who are working towards the "implementation" of their ideologies and values on people. 

On one hand, for example, some religious groups wish to implement religious code of conduct on society without analyzing the status of peoples' affiliation with religion and its conduct and without developing the religious roots in human personality. They just want to impose the religious conduct on followers. In my opinion, this way of implementation of religion just covers the dust and does not clean it. On the other hand, liberals also do the same when they propagate their ideologies to foreign lands. Their ideals of liberty, uncontrolled freedom, ubiquitous gender equality, western democracy, attitude towards homosexuality etc, are exotic to a major part of the world. However, they still insist, actively or passively, on imposing these values. In both of the aforementioned cases, the results is hypocrisy and chaos, respectively. Unless the ideologies and values are deeply rooted in individual's personality, they can not flourish on collective and national level. The inevitable fate of all such efforts, which do not comply with the roots-and-soil law, is no different than that of uprooted palm trees.

We humans have come a long way in material development. Biomimetics is a field of science which deals with imitation of nature to solve complex human problems. I think, its time that we take lessons from nature for complex socio-cultural as well as psychological problems. I invite you to learn from small observations from the nature around us.
