Love or Something Like it

Since the time I started writing this blog, I have been yearning to write something about Love. So I kept waiting till the month in which a feeling is celebrated, that is most of the time only “something like Love”.  Let’s call it “Love”.

So, Friends, One of the forms of “Love” manifests itself in gender based feelings, closely resembling Love. However, most of the times, this resemblance is merely an illusion. So,  after a considerable amount of “experience” in this “field”, I think that, majority of the times, “Love” is merely a feeling of attachment, infatuation, crush, habit and worst yet, Lust, confused with Love. In my opinion, the reason behind this feeling of “Love” is the vulnerability of human emotions and their dependence on others. So “Love” sneaks in when we are emotionally weak. Despite saying this, I still feel that, the need of “Love” is inherent in human nature as human beings are naturally weak and interdependent. However it is to remember that if it is “Love”, then it will have a short life and it can end due to many reasons including time, distance or marriage (yes! marriage does end “Love”).

On the other hand, if it is real Love (without double quotes), then it is a sacred feeling which is pure, unconditional and forever. Neither marriage nor distance can end it. It is not inflicted by lust or a temporary need of emotional dependence. It does not demand the ownership of the other person and still sacrifices and care about him / her. Most of the time, its manifestations can be felt in the warmth of our mother’s touch and in the sweat of our father’s struggle. It can be seen in the everlasting mercy of our Lord and His countless blessings, despite our negligence in thanking Him with words and actions. This does not mean that I negate the possibility of Love in gender based feelings, however I have yet to see a gender based Love which is unconditional and forever (Apart from “Devdas” and “A walk to remember” ).

I might seem to narrow down the scope of Love to my readers but my respect towards the feeling of Love and its sanctity does not allow me to mix it with the feelings of infatuation, crush, attachment, habit or lust. At the same time, I also hold these feelings of infatuation, crush and attachment as natural and inherent in human nature.

So I dedicate this blog to Love itself, to the purity and sanctity of this feeling which sweetens the heart. I pray that may Love occupy the hearts of every soul. Amen

“The name of the blog has been inspired by the Hollywood Movie “Life or something like it”

  3. Good way of expressing your thoughts of it. Totally agree on the definition of pure love. but I think the 'love'between opposite sex, I might just say it is a natural instinct of species survival - like animal instincts. You can elaborate more.

    1. Thanks for your comments Shin. I somewhat agree with you that it is a natural instinct in humans. They had to have attraction towards opposite gender in order to survive. However, that is where i would like to draw a line, attraction, crush, infatuation should be placed in a separate category than Love. and tht is what i was trying to elaborate in my article. For love, in my humble opinion, there is no other choice available, either it will be pure, or it does not exist at the first place :)

but your comment made me think of it from another angle :) thanks
